Yesterday
I spent a lovely evening at my boyfriend’s house, having a film night.
One of
the films we watched was 'The Host'. I had never heard of it before, nor had I
watched the trailer for it. So From the name I deduced it was a going to be a scary,
gory, futuristic, horror type film, all about how Earth is going to get taken
over and people having to fight to survive the parasitic aliens.
So after
a dramatic start with a chase and a suicide, I soon started to realize... This
is a chick flick... a chick flick about parasitic aliens, taking over humans,
and them, then, producing symptoms of schizophrenia by talking to the voice (the
mind of the human) in their head...
I was in
shock as it was dawning on me. I felt so mislead, and a little disappointed.
That said I did not dislike the film at all as far as chick flicks go; it was
a interesting and definitely unexpected twist upon the first realisation. I
just wished it was a bit more about the struggle between the human and aliens,
rather than the relationships between specific people.
As you
may have guessed I am not a big fan of chick flicks, but If you are it's a very
interesting take on the blossoming of love between unlikely people (Using
the word people loosely!).
Without
giving to much away, it all ends up with a happy ending, lots of love and
peace.
I would give this film a solid...
It's worth a look, even if it's not what it first seems!
Lots of love,
x
